I thought it would be nice to get a little more personal with you guys. To give you a little bit more insight on the people behind OnTheBlock, share the things I like and inspire me on a daily basis. So here I am, with my first “personal” blog post. And before I start off, let me clear some things up: I’m not a writer, “professional” blogger or what so ever. My English vocabulary might not be the greatest, so don’t judge me, haha!

Alright, now we got that out the way, let’s get straight to the subject I wanted to write about: Podcasts. Yup, you read it right! Before I started listening to any podcasts at all, I always thought it was the most nerdy thing ever – and maybe it is – until I found some really dope ones that actually do not only entertain, but also inspire me. So join me on this nerd-vibe and let me share some of my favorites with you. First up is Improper Etiquette by Leah McSweeney and Laura Stylez.

Now if you’re reading this, I take that you’re somewhat interested in streetwear, so there’s no way you don’t know Leah. She’s the creator and CEO of Married To The Mob, one of the first all-female streetwear brands (peep the latest collection right here at OnTheBlock, of course!). Love her or hate her, but there’s one thing you can’t deny: She’s been on top of the game for a very long time and is a total bad ass! There aren’t many females who are open about their personal life like she is and honestly not giving a flyin’ f*ck. Whether it’s about her business, her daughter Kiki, relationships or even her mental health. And as different as I am myself (you’ll hardly see me write/post anything personal) I do love her IDGAF-mentality and think it’s very empowering.

Alongside Leah, there’s a OG in the radio game: Hot 97 morning host Laura Stylez. With over twelve years in the radio industry, this babe is a remarkable force in the New York market, the toughest scene to break into and be heard. Laura joined the Hot 97 morning show in 2013 as a producer and co-host alongside Peter Rosenberg and Ebro. Now this lady right here is going HARD. And I won’t say too much just yet, because I’m trying to get you all to listen to this podcast, but on the third episode she gives a little view into her weekly schedule… daymn!

Anyway, join these two as they allow you into their lives and bring you along for the ride. They cover a wide range of topics on their podcast, reflecting their lives in the music and fashion industry, especially how it is for them to navigate as women in male-dominated industries. But they also discuss love, sex, relationships and interview the strongest female figures in music, fashion and business.

And I know you might still think “podcasts?!”, but give it a try! Whenever you’re doing the dishes, on your way to work, or chillin’ in the sun… It’s totally relaxing and before you know it, you’ll be hooked, just like I am (I found myself giggling like a crazy person, listening to these two, while I was out on my bike this morning).
